The wordmark took cues from cranksets and cogs. Its geometry mirrored the repetitive motion of cycling mechanics. Like a machine part stripped of function, the mark carried both industrial weight and cultural play, a duality that made it flexible across kit, merchandise, and media.

1 OVERVIEW


The term gruppetto refers to the cluster of cyclists that forms at the back of the peloton. Riders gather there out of comradery. The name became the starting point for a Southern California cycling team and identity project.

2 RESEARCH


Wind tunnel tests and aerodynamic studies informed the design language. Mechanics, technicality, wind, and speed were treated as visual cues rather than abstract ideas. Typography, color, and kit design carried traces of airflow patterns and machine geometry.
